STREAMS OF KNOWLEDGE, the legacy of José Mariano Gago

This is the first edition of the annual cycle of conferences Streams of Knowledge, a tribute to José Mariano Gago, on the day of his birth.

In addition to evoking his legacy, both nationally and abroad, these conferences will be a call for collective mobilization, broadening the support for the construction of a future with more knowledge. The appropriation of scientific culture and the generalization of public, informed debate on science and technology are structural ingredients to the construction of this future. This demands a persistent investment in science and higher education organizations, together with a sustained effort in the training of Portuguese citizens, which begins with close contact with the practices of science in primary and secondary education.

This first conference will include the presentation of the book www.marianogago.org, a compilation of testimonies from students, teachers, journalists, researchers, leaders of major international organizations, and citizens with the most diverse backgrounds, who spontaneously shared their testimonies on the website that inspired the title of this publication.
